Yamaha performing artist Douglas Yeo has visited Kirkham Grammar School to deliver a masterclass on the art of playing the trombone.

He helped out 31 trombonists in an afternoon session which took place on Sunday (June 27th 2010), before going on to perform with the members of the Freckleton Band and the Natural State Brass Band in the evening.

Yeo - who is the bass trombonist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra – gave participants useful tips on their technique and performance as part of his visit.

The musician has previously collaborated with Yamaha on the designs of one of their basstrombones, as well as helping the company to develop the Douglas Yeo signature mouthpiece.

Last month, Yeo played the American national anthem with the rest of the Boston Symphony Orchestra at a basketball game between Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers.

He wrote on his website that the performance was a "special thrill" for him.
