Video games 'fuel interest in musical instruments'

Great deals on musical instruments
The Rock Band video game is not putting people off playing real electric guitars, its creator has insisted.

Musicians such as Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Nick Mason of Pink Floyd and former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman have been among those to suggest the game is stopping people from learning actual instruments.

However, game developer Harmonix Music Systems has said it believes the veteran rockers are incorrect.

"We're constantly hearing from fans who were inspired by Rock Band to start studying a real instrument," co-founder Alex Rigopulos commented.

He said this is because many people do not find the early stages of learning an instrument particularly gratifying.

This, he continued, means that Rock Band can give players a quick insight into the rewards that playing a real guitar can offer further down the line.

Music fans have this week been rushing to buy The Beatles: Rock Band, which allows gamers to play along with more than 40 songs by the Fab Four.
