White Stripes ballet set to premiere in Toronto
The White Stripes may have made their name as a two-person ensemble with Meg White on the drum kit and Jack White playing everything from the electric guitar to the piano, but Canadian fans of the band are set to hear a rather different version of their songs.
Chroma, a ballet set to orchestral reworkings of White Stripes songs, is to feature in the National Ballet of Canada's 2010-11 season.
The show has already played to packed audiences in London and Karen Kain, the National Ballet's artistic director, told CBC News that she hopes to repeat Chroma's success in Toronto.
She said that she wanted to introduce ballet to people more used to listening to music featuring an electric guitar, while also giving ballet lovers a chance to hear how music is progressing.
"I think if you keep exposing them [ballet audiences] to how the art form is growing and how it is moving into our time that they come along with you and they have been coming along with us," Ms Kain stated.
Last December, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page told BBC 6 Music that Jack White's playing style makes his music instantly recognisable.Posted on 9 Feb 2010 18:30 to category : Instruments News
