Who guitarist reveals diverse inspirations
Pete Townshend has revealed that very diverse circumstances and conditions can inspire him to come up with a new song.
The Who guitarist described his way of approaching songwriting as "strange", as items such as a piece of computer software that makes "funky" drum sounds can trigger an idea.
He said a new guitar or experimenting with alternative tunings can also get his creative juices flowing, along with experimenting in the studio.
"The modern recording studio is as much a hobby for me as a train set or a boat," Townshend commented.
"There is a lot of childlike play in all this."
He said he also still enjoys playing electric guitar with The Who and gets a lot of fulfillment from playing to new audiences across the globe.
Townshend has written the vast majority of songs in the band's back catalogue, including My Generation, Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O'Reilly and Substitute.Posted on 17 Jun 2009 14:46 to category : Band / Celebrity News
