Willow Smith's Idol influence
Willow Smith wants to be like Billy Idol and Lady Gaga.
The nine year old daughter of actor and former rapper Will Smith has caused an internet sensation with her debut song 'Whip My Hair' - which has been viewed more than seven million times on YouTube.
Willow describes her music as "punk rock meets preppy", and named her influences as Billy because "his music is really tight," and Gaga because: "She's really nice. She's really awesome because she cares about everybody and she writes songs about herself and everybody."
Willow's parents - Will and Jada Pinkett Smith - are both musicians as well as Hollywood actors, with Will having had hits including 'Boom! Shake The Room' as DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince; and Jada is the lead singer in Nu Metal group Wicked Wisdom.
Willow said she decided to embark on her musical career at such a young age because she feels she can "make a difference" to people.
She added: "I would go on tour with them and watch them and I'd be like, 'Oh my gosh, that's what I wanna do.
"I wanted to make a difference now, and because I wanted to be big and famous like my mommy and daddy and help people."
She added that the advice her parents have given her was: "Never be afraid to be yourself. Even when you're in the spotlight."
'Whip My Hair' will be given a commercial release in 2011.Posted on 27 Oct 2010 06:45 to category : Band / Celebrity News
