Wood 'important to acoustic guitar sound quality'
Aaron Schulman, a writer and teacher, has told Guitar International that this is often overlooked by buyers but is an important factor in the instruments' sound.
He said that a wide array of different domestic and exotic woods are available, although a smaller selection of woods are commonly used and have a long-standing history.
The expert highlights East Indian Rosewood as one of the most acclaimed woods. He said it produces "the richest, most balanced and best projecting sound".
Other favourites he identified are Western Mahogany, which offers a more natural finish that is easily identifiable by guitar aficionado. He said that these guitars will typically offer more clarity in the mid-range, although they can sometimes lack in terms of the bass ranges.
For fans of the bluegrass sound, Mr Schulman suggested that a Mahogany musical instrument may be the best bet.
Earlier this week, teen sensation Justin Bieber announced that he was putting one of his acoustic guitars up for auction in order to benefit a Winnipeg food bank.
