'Fresh colours and phat FM sounds' - these are the words used by Yamaha to describe the new MX49 and MX61 synthesizers.

FM synthesis is making quite a comeback in the synth world and now it is Yamaha's turn to weigh in with these revamped versions. the MX49 and MX61 weigh just 3.8kg and 4.8kg respectively.

Each model is available in three different finishes:

MX49 - black, blue or a limited edition white

MX61 - black, blue or a limited edition white.

When connected to the new dedicated FM Essential iOS app (download here), each model features 256 FM sounds produced by an FM engine with four operators and ten voices.

There is also a complete MOTIF engine with 1,000 sounds including acoustic piano, drums and electronic sounds. Each model boasts 128 voice polyphony.

MX synthesizers can also be used as comprehensive master-keyboards with an integrated audio interface. Software such as Steinberg's Cubase and plug-ins are directly controllable through dedicated DAW controller dials.

Due to the class compliant technology, no drivers are needed when connecting the MX to your computer. The MX will be instantly detected and installed automatically. Steinberg Cubase AI, Steinberg Prologue and Yamaha YC-3B organ emulator are included with each MX series synth.
