Yarmouth man produces piano book for young people
A local Yarmouth man who is better known for his work in theatre has launched the first in a series of piano books aimed at young musicians.
Andre Haines launched his new book entitled Piano Explosion at Yarmouth County Museum, reported the Yarmouth County Vanguard.
The music book contains 20 short pieces that Mr Haines himself has composed, which were then refined by his editor Gregory Walters.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Haines said that he wanted the pieces to be fun.
"In these pieces there are specific technical skills that every pianist needs to master," he said.
The book, which is his way of paying homage to the community he grew up in, is the first in what he hopes will be a series of ten graded books.
When he's not writing piano pieces, Mr Haines performs in film, theatre and cabaret, and has written and composed for stage and television.
Don Christiansen, a Carlsbad resident, recently proposed erecting a piano at his local train station.
The operators of the train station were so impressed with the idea that they have put it up for discussion at their next meeting later this month.
