sE Electronics On Tour With Black Sabbath
Greg's worked with some of the heaviest acts in rock and is currently out with Black Sabbath on their world tour, using sE Electronics mics to get the best possible result.
Since beginning to work with the band in 1992, Price used the t2 titanium mic to capture the heavy metal crunch of Tony Iommi's guitar rig. "I'm looking for a mid-range texture that the T2 gives me on guitar," says Price. "I want that really punchy mid-range for guitar".
Price has worked with frontman Ozzy Osbourne for 18 years."Over the last two years, I've used the sE 4, sE4400a, T2, Voodoo VR1 and Voodoo VR2. The right mic for the job is why I choose sE Microphones. There is no comparison." He adds, "And they are great looking mics."
The go-to guy for hard-rock artists including Rage Against The Machine, Van Halen and Audioslave, Greg Price is faced with a particular set of engineering challenges. "Most bands prefer a high dB level on stage. Total sound pressure level is a combination of instruments, monitors, room environment and PA volume. These elements always make the vocals a real issue." sE microphones have helped Price to overcome this issue.
In the studio, the problems are different, and Price has always been on the lookout for that one mic that can capture the band in the room. The solution is the sE Electronics sE4 mic. The small diaphragm condenser model gives him the kind of 'memory recording' he desires, where the recording is captured exactly as experienced.
