The acoustic guitar has existed in many forms for centuries, but fundamentally an acoustic guitar is a stringed instrument with a hollow body and resonant sound hole. Today, acoustic guitars adopt many different shapes and design types to suit certain styles of music.

The Dreadnought acoustic, like Yamaha’s F310, is probably the most popular type of acoustic guitar to date, thanks to its compromise between size and volume. A Jumbo acoustic is larger still and is designed to give a very deep, resonant tone. Smaller-bodied models or ‘Folk’ size as they are also known, are popular in Folk music and with smaller players.
