Expensive musical instruments 'must be insured'

People with a collection of musical instruments have been advised to take out a suitable cover policy.

People who own lots of musical instruments such as electric guitars, keyboards and drum kits have been told to take out insurance.

According to Niki Bolton of esure home insurance, any instrument worth more than £1,500 needs to be specified on a cover policy.

Therefore, she has recommended that professional musicians and those who only do occasional gigs get in touch with their insurance provider if they need to.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ms Bolton commented: "Some will cover your instrument only if it is used for leisure purposes.

"If this is not adequate, you may need specialist cover."

The need for musicians to be insured was highlighted recently when Noah and the Whale had all their gear stolen, forcing them to see out the rest of the tour with borrowed equipment.

They were playing in Manchester when items such as a Gibson Les Paul, a Fender Telecaster and a Ludwig drum kit were taken from their trailer.
