Guitarists 'should have plenty of picks in reserve'
Electric guitar players should go to every gig with plenty of picks in case they lose the one they normally use.
This is the advice of Peter Hodgson, a contributor to the Gibson Lifestyle blog, who explained that musicians should bring along a host of picks when playing live, stashing them in various places on stage, such as on top of an amp or pedalboard.
He said this will ensure the show will go on should one of the items ever go missing during a performance.
Mr Hodgson added that it may be a good idea to get used to using a variety of different picks, which can help electric guitar players develop a number of performance styles.
"Don't ever become so reliant on one piece of gear that you can't function without it," he advised.
Last month, Ted Drozdowski, another columnist for the Gibson Lifestyle blog, said guitarists may also benefit from owning a distortion pedal.
He suggested that musicians interested in buying such a device should select a product that is immediately responsive to their playing needs, getting a pedal that will provide them with "exactly the sound you want as quickly as possible".
