'Jail Guitar Doors' charity leads to Clash reunion
The charity, which provides musical instruments to prison inmates, was founded by singer-songwriter Billy Bragg to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the death of Clash frontman Joe Strummer.
Bragg joined Jones and Headon to re-record the 1978 Clash song after which the charity was named.
They were backed by a band of four former prisoners who had been helped by the charity.
Bragg said the charity was formed on the principle that prison should be about more than just locking people away.
"We want people to be able to move on from their situation and reconnect with the outside world, and my hunch was that playing an instrument - particularly a guitar - could help that," he said.
Footage from the recording session will feature in Breaking Rocks, a documentary about the charity.
The film will receive its premiere on October 1st 2009 at the Raindance film festival in London.Posted on 20 Sep 2009 10:00 to category : Music News
