Labrinth not preferred by Cowell
Labrinth denies music mogul Simon Cowell, his uncle, has paved his way to fame.
The 'Let The Sunshine In' singer is signed to 'The X Factor' boss Simons' record label, Syco, but insists he hasn't had any preferential treatment in the music business while carving out his own name for himself.
21-year-old Labrinth - who produced and guest starred in Tinie Tempah's UK number one singles 'Pass Out' and 'Frisky', which were released on the EMI record label - exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "People would close the door in a second if I wasn't delivering the music.
"Labels don't give me more attention, artists don't; give me more.
"In fact to some degree it could affect my name and the way people look at me as well, because some people don't believe in what Simon Cowell does.
"I've already done what I needed to do on my own, and Syco has extended their hand, and allowed me to branch out a little further than I otherwise could."
The singer, multi instrumentalist and producer also said he thinks Simon - who has been behind the rise of singers including Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis, after they won his reality TV shows - sees some of his own talent spotting skills in his young relative.
Labrinth, real name Timothy McKenzie, added: "Simon has taken me on because he's seen I can get my music out and can make things happen in the business.Posted on 15 Sep 2010 07:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
