Music stars get together for Buddy Holly tribute album
A whole raft of music stars from past and present have got together to lend their voices and musical skills to new Buddy Holly tribute album.
The album, which is a compilation of Buddy Holly's most famous songs covered by today and yesterday's music stars, is to be released sometime in the summer to celebrate what would have been the rock and roll icon's 75th birthday.
Holly tragically died at the age of 22 in a plane crash in 1959, cutting short the life of a musician who in his brief music career had already become something of a pioneer of the rock and roll genre.
The album features, among a cast of other stars, Beatles legend Paul McCartney performing It's So Easy, Lou Reed interpreting Peggy Lee, Julian Casablancas rocking Rave On, Kid Rock thumping Well... All Right, Cee Lo Green singing '(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care, Florence and the Machine belting out Not Fade Away and Patti Smith lending her voice to Words of Love.
Buddy Holly, famed for his signature black thick-rimmed glasses and electric guitar, pushed the rock and roll genre forward massively. According to Rolling Stone, the singer-songwriter popularised the two guitars, bass and drums line-up that is now found in a lot of bands today.
