Welsh schoolchildren to spend grant on musical instruments

New musical instruments are on the shopping list for one school in Wales.

A school in Wales is planning to spend its share of a new grant on buying musical instruments for its students.

Under the Kit4Kids scheme, a total of £50,000 is to be shared out among schools in the catchment area, with those who collect the most tokens from the South Wales Echo taking the largest share of the money.

It has already been decided how pupils at Mary Immaculate in Caerau Lane, Cardiff, will benefit from their share of the funding, reports the newspaper.

Natalie Flynn-Lubarsky, community partnership manager at the school, said: "We're really keen to start a rock band.

"We hope that this will encourage more students to take up musical instruments."

She added this will give the pupils the opportunity to share their musical gifts with people living nearby.

The aim of the scheme is to foster community spirit and get everyone in each area coming together to support their local school.
