About Individual Drums
Individual drums are a handy way to build, expand, or customise your drum kit one piece at a time. Acoustic drums each have their own role within a setup, and choosing them separately gives you more control over your sound, configuration, and playing experience. It also means you can replace a single drum without changing the rest of a kit.
There are several types to choose from. Snare drums provide the sharp, responsive sound at the heart of many beats, while bass drums deliver the low-end punch that drives a kit. Rack and floor toms add tonal depth for fills and patterns, with different shell sizes producing different pitches and responses. You can also find specialist drums designed to introduce additional sounds and textures to your setup.
Shell material, diameter, depth, drumheads, and tuning can all affect how an individual drum sounds. Wooden shells are available in materials such as maple, birch, and mahogany, while metal is commonly used for snare drums. Each construction brings its own tonal characteristics, so there’s plenty of room to shape a kit around the sound you have in mind.
