Bass Drums

Bass Drums, otherwise known as Kick Drums, are large cylindrical drums mounted vertically on a floor stand as part of a drum kit, and are played with a kick pedal and kick drum beater. In most common genres of music kick drums are played with the right foot and provide a low-pitch, steady rhythm.

Bass Drums are one of the most important parts of the drum kit, and come in various depths and diameters to produce different tones and pitches. The standard size for a modern kick drum is around 22" wide, but this varies - smaller diameters will produce a higher sound, and larger diameters deliver a lower tone.

The depth of a kick drum determines its resonance and sustain - shallower models are tighter and punchier whilst deeper drums resonate and reverberate more.
