JodyJazz is an American mouthpiece manufacturer founded by saxophonist Jody Espina in 2000. Drawing on Espina’s experience as a performer and educator, the company combines detailed hand-finishing with modern design and manufacturing methods. Its mouthpieces are individually gauged and play-tested, with close attention paid to response, projection, intonation, and tonal balance. Today, JodyJazz designs and hand-finishes their mouthpieces in Savannah, Georgia, producing models for advancing students, experienced players, and touring professionals.
JodyJazz offers a wide range of saxophone mouthpieces, each with its own character. The DV series applies design principles inspired by the golden ratio to create a free-blowing feel with excellent projection and a rich, full sound. The HR* clarinet models combine a warm hard-rubber tone with a free-blowing response, making them suitable for players seeking versatility and control. Alongside its mouthpieces, JodyJazz also produces the Power Ring ligatures, engineered to maximise reed vibration for greater resonance and harmonic richness.
From warm hard-rubber models to powerful metal designs, JodyJazz gives players a clear choice of tonal characters and playing responses. This varied approach has helped the brand become an established name among saxophonists and clarinettists around the world.
Jody Espina is an American saxophonist, clarinettist, flautist, educator, and the founder of JodyJazz. His experience as a performer and teacher informs his mouthpiece designs, which are developed to balance tone, response, projection, and playability.
The JodyJazz HR* is a hard-rubber saxophone mouthpiece known for its warm tone and free-blowing response. Its round, medium-sized chamber provides a versatile sound suited to traditional jazz, big band, bebop, and more modern styles.
The JodyJazz DV has a brighter, more contemporary sound with powerful projection and a very free-blowing feel. The DV NY is darker and warmer, with a deeper chamber and slightly more resistance, producing a classic jazz character inspired by the sounds of the 1950s and 1960s.
