Getting your first drum kit sorted doesn’t need to be complicated. The BDK 1 gives you all the pieces you’ll need to start learning, including a 22" bass drum, 12" and 13" rack toms, a 16" floor tom, and a 14" snare. That gives you plenty of room to practise your first beats and fills before moving on to more involved parts. You’ve also got 14" hi hats and a 16" crash/ride for working on timing, accents, and dynamics. Rock, pop, or something else entirely, there’s plenty here to get stuck into.
Poplar shells give every drum a deep, mellow character, providing a versatile starting point while you discover how you like to play. The different drum sizes give you a useful spread of pitches for learning fills and experimenting with patterns around the kit. Plus, the poplar construction is made to handle the repeated hits that naturally come with practising. As your coordination improves, you can start putting the whole kit to work and exploring how each drum fits into your grooves.
Cymbals can make a big difference to the feel of a drum part, and the included steel set gives you plenty to experiment with. The 14" hi hats produce a crisp sound that’s useful for keeping time, practising accents, and getting to grips with syncopated beats. Your 16" crash/ride adds another layer of variety. Play it gently for more sustain and shimmer, or give it a firmer strike when you want extra rasp and attack. This means you can start learning about dynamics early on and hear how changing your playing technique can change the character of a groove.
A good setup should feel secure while you concentrate on playing. The BDK 1 includes double braced hi hat, cymbal, and snare stands, giving the kit sturdy support during practice. There’s also a padded, height adjustable drum stool, so you can find a seating position that feels comfortable for you. An adjustable bass drum beater lets you set up the pedal to suit your playing, while the included drum key gives you what you need for adjustments. You’ll even find a pair of 5B drumsticks in the box, alongside the drum skins and necessary fittings, so you can get set up and start making some noise.
