Marco Sfogli is an Italian metal guitarist primarily known for work with James LaBrie, Jordan Rudess and Matt Guillory. As well as a guitarist, Marco is also a composer, arranger and mixing engineer. This signature model has been designed in collaboration with Marco and is perfect for metal guitarists.
The MSM1 is crafted from lightweight American basswood for a comfortable feel over long periods of use. Basswood is also a versatile tonewood with great resonance; it will help bring out every nuance of your playing and is highly adaptable to many different styles and sounds.
The body is topped with eye-catching tineo; a wood commonly used in luxury furniture design for its immediate grain pattern. The neck is crafted from a sandwich of 5 pieces of panga panga and purpleheart; this gives it a stunning aesthetic from the rear and the lamination enhances its strength and sustain.
The MSM1 has a fast playing neck with 24 jumbo frets, finished with the Ibanez Premium Fret Edge Treatment for an incredibly smooth playing-feel and enhanced control over the strings. The neck features a modern 305mm radius giving a flat playing surface, while the thin neck lets you tackle the most challenging of playing techniques.
The neck is mounted to the body with an all-access neck joint which, in combination with the deep body cutaways, allows you to reach all 24 frets with ease. The neck is finished in satin for a smooth and tactile left-hand feel.
DiMarzio humbuckers give this guitar both power and nuance; perfect for modern styles of metal. The Air Zone and 'The Tone Zone' pickups are an ideal pairing and each pickup is articulate, powerful, yet capable of great nuance. These properties are ideal for modern high-gain styles of music, with the ability to clean up with the guitar's volume control and reveal every subtle nuance in your playing.
The MSM1 is loaded with an Ibanez SynchroniZR tremolo bridge which gives an incredibly smooth whammy bar action, just like a double locking system. The tremolo is mounted with a pivot rather than a knife-edge and creates a professional level of reliability.
The reverse of the guitar features the ZPS-FX system which allows you to lock down the tremolo and create a hardtail setup. This is ideal for musicians who regularly detune, or those who like to play double stops frequently, where a regular tremolo would bend out of tune.
This tremolo is combined with Gotoh MG-T locking tuners which give stable tuning and a fast string-change. The complete tremolo/tuners system gives you the versatility of a double locking system with the reliability and stability of a hardtail and makes for a hugely capable guitar, both for live performances and in the studio.
