Key Features
Steady State Fate Vortices is a seven-channel Eurorack mixer module with a vintage tape-inspired saturation and compression circuit for maximum sonic destruction. Split into two sections, Vortices is comprised of a four-channel mono mixer and three-channel stereo mixer, each with its own independent gain levels and outputs. For a wide range of modulation, routing and sonic manipulation, channels one and four of the mono mixer feature voltage-controlled panning and channels two and three feature voltage-controlled crossfading.
Inspired by classic analog devices, Vortices offers a different character than other modular mixers. The onboard tape-inspired saturation and compression can round the harsh edges of instruments such as drums or sawtooth pulses, whilst adding a thick and weighty low-end and gritty character. For contemporary sound designers, Vortices offers the opportunity for interesting feedback through patching the individual outputs back on itself.

Consisting of two mixers interlinked together with individual routing and outputs, the Vortices opens up new and exciting ways to manipulate and blend your modules together. The mono mixer section supports four input sources with channels one and four offering voltage-controlled panning. Channels two and three are fed into the voltage-controlled crossfader, both panning and crossfader options are made up of a unique linear curve for consistent power across the full range.
Driving the gain of each mono input will impart the sonic signature of Vortices, a tape-inspired saturation and compression circuit. This added saturation and compression is ideal for use with drums and percussion elements, rounding off hard edges of audio signals whilst adding grit, character and body to the sound. Avid sound designers will see the potential in the open design, whereby you can route the monophonic outputs back into the inputs to achieve tape-saturated feedback loops for creative effect.
The stereo mixer section features three stereo inputs. The mono inputs can be driven into searing overdrive following the same tape-distortion circuit. This time, however, the signal gain needs pushed much higher to achieve the crunching saturation. This is to compensate for the increased gain levels of a stereo signal.
As well as offering both a stereo and mono mixing section, Vortices comes included with a 2HP CV expander. Now, you can take control of each input's volume level through several different systems.
Delivering the organic saturation that would typically be found on high-end studio equipment, Vortices features a powerful output biasing to add warmth and depth to your sound. Emulating a vintage Class-A tube and a transistor amplifier, the output biasing can be pushed into searing overdrive. Vortices produces enough output gain and compression on its own, provided the signal is symmetrical. However, for non-symmetrical inputs, Vortices internally amplifies the imperfections, leading to exciting odd-order harmonics.
