To recreate the original microphone to an exacting standard, the Stam Audio SA-251 has been constructed using industry-leading parts and components. Paying extra care and attention to the capsule, a Tim Campbell CK12 Danish hand-made capsule has been selected as it imprints the exact tone and sonic characteristic of the original. As well as the hand-made capsule, the SA-251 features premium capacitors within the circuit path to deliver the optimised audio performance that the SA-251 boasts. Coming shipped with a GE6072A tube, the SA-251 has an extremely low noise floor and THD rating, giving it the best performance currently on the market for tube microphones. The benefit of this performance is that you will be able to capture highly dynamic performances such as a female lead vocal or piano with unrivalled accuracy without introducing any unwanted hiss or background noise, letting the musician express their true intention unrestricted.
Equally as important as the capsule is the transformer used within the SA-251. Following from the original factory blueprints and specifications, a Haufe T14/1 transformer is employed that has been manufactured in the same machine as it was when the original microphone was first introduced over 50 years ago.
Rounding off the exquisite attention to detail, the SA-251 makes use of a custom head basket with a dual mesh layer. This basket has been designed to follow the exact dimensions and specifications of the original ELA M 251 microphone and influences the sonic character in the exact same way. The custom-designed dual mesh layer smooths out the top-end of your signal, softening any sibilance and acting in a similar way to a traditional pop shield.
