Full Description

Powerful VCO

The Studio Electronics ToneStar 8106 features a VCO with triangle, sawtooth, square (with PWM), and square-sub waveforms. The VCO comes complete with pitch range, fine tune knob and 3 octave switch for adjusting pitch. The square wave also has pulse width modulation which is ideal for thickening up a sound and adding movement. The pulse width modulation can be used to recreate the classic detuned rave leads, and can also come from the triangle wave LFO. Additionally, the VCO section includes glide, which allows you to slide between different notes. Included are individual outputs for each of the waveforms, and an extra input that is a mix of all waveforms. When patched into the mix output, the amount of each waveform can be adjusted with the small knobs above. Furthermore, there is a noise output that produces white noise, which is ideal for adding more high frequency content to your sound.

Flexible VCF

The ToneStar features a filter with controls for both frequency and resonance amount. The VCF also features a drive knob which sets the level being fed into the filter. Additionally, the filter features 2 modulation attenuators. The first is patched to the envelope allowing you to control the envelope of the filter. The MOD (LFO) knob is the second modulation attenuator. This attenuates the modulation amount sent to either frequency or resonance of the filter depending on the position of the frequency resonance switch. You can also patch a signal into the MOD IN jack to use an external source to modulate.

Versatile Envelopes

The Studio ToneStar 8106 features 2 envelopes including ADSR, and AR. In the top position, the ADSR is unaffected, but the AR is overridden to provide infinite sustain. When in the center position, both the ADSR and AR envelope are selected. The ADSR amount is voltage controlled so it can be manipulated by MIDI dynamics, MIDI volume, an LFO and more. When the switch is positioned at the bottom, the VCA is controlled by the ADSR.

Everything Is Patchable

The ToneStar 8106 is designed so that everything is patchable. The 21 patch points allow for expansive connections and encourages you to explore new configurations. The patch points can be patched with any other patch points, allowing you to experiment with your connectivity.

Limited Edition Black Finish

This version of the ToneStar 8106 comes in a sleek, black finish and is ideal for modular users looking to co-ordinate their modular systems and setups. The vintage-style design employs a retro colour-scheme with each section boasting their own coloured potentiometers. Each section is uniformed and each parameter is clearly annotated for quick and easy access. As well as the potentiometers, the module features a range of switches and smaller pots for controlling a wide range of features. The module requires 32HP of rack space, making it the perfect module to be the keystone in your modular setup. Additionally, the module comes complete with a powering ribbon attached for added convenience.
