The Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch 22" 4pc Shell Pack, Garnet Red Sparkle is built for drummers wanting punchy tone, flexible positioning, and efficient setup. Its walnut/birch shells combine the focused attack of birch with the firm, warm character of American black walnut, giving you a punchy sound with a sweeter, mellower edge. The included 10" and 12" toms use Tama's Star-Cast mounting system, designed to support resonance while allowing close, comfortable positioning.
Quick-Lock brackets make repeat setups easier by retaining your chosen positions on the tom holder and floor tom legs. You also get zinc die-cast hoops for consistent tuning, crisp attack, and clear highs, alongside EVANS batter heads across the toms and bass drum. The four-piece configuration includes a 22"x16" bass drum, 10"x8" and 12"x9" toms, 16"x14" floor tom, and MTH1000 double tom holder.

The walnut/birch hybrid shells give you a balance of definition and warmth. The toms and floor tom use 6mm shells made with four plies of birch and two inner plies of American black walnut, while the bass drum uses an 8mm construction with five birch plies and two inner walnut plies. Birch contributes a focused, punchy attack, while walnut adds a firm, warm character with a sweeter and mellower quality. This combination gives each hit clear definition without losing the rounded tonal character that helps the kit sound full.
Tama's Star-Cast mounting system supports resonance and stability while giving you plenty of freedom when arranging your rack toms. Its streamlined aluminium design lets you position the toms closer together, helping you build a comfortable setup around your playing style. The included MTH1000 double tom holder adds further flexibility through its omni-ball system, providing extensive angle adjustment. Each ball can also travel backwards and forwards through a 100mm arc, giving you more control over where each tom sits — useful when fine-tuning reach, height, and spacing around your kit.
Quick-Lock brackets help take repetitive adjustments out of setting up your drums. Once you've found the right tom and floor tom positions, sliding the bracket switch separates the assembly while leaving its memory-lock section attached to the stand or floor tom leg. Your positioning is therefore retained ready for the next setup, without needing separate memory locks. Rubber lining inside the brackets also helps reduce vibration transfer into the supporting hardware, allowing the drums to resonate more freely. The bass drum spur brackets feature memory markers too, making it easier to return the spurs to your preferred positions.
Zinc die-cast hoops give the toms a dense, consistently shaped foundation for tuning. Their construction helps the tension bolts contact the hoop correctly, making even tuning easier to achieve while contributing crisp attack, clear resonant highs, and powerful rim shots. EVANS heads are fitted throughout the playing surfaces, with Genera G2 two-ply clear batter heads on the rack and floor toms, plus Genera EQ4 clear on the bass drum batter side. Air-cushioned floor tom feet help limit vibration transfer into the floor, while rubber-spaced bass drum claw hooks help protect the wooden hoops and reduce unwanted rattling.
