Developed with a bass icon
This pedal was created through close collaboration with John Myung during studio sessions with Dream Theater. The goal was simple and focused: capture his recognisable bass tone in a compact, reliable format.
Drawing on his long-term use of Ashdown amplification, the Double Drive reflects practical decisions made by a working musician. You get a pedal designed around real performance needs, not abstract features, making it easier to achieve a controlled, articulate drive sound in both live and recording environments.
Two drives that work together
The Double Drive centres on two distinct distortion circuits voiced for bass. Drive 1 delivers harmonic overdrive with gain, loud, and tone controls, ideal for adding body and subtle edge to your core sound.
Drive 2 introduces a fuzz-style character with grit and burn controls, offering thicker saturation and longer sustain. You can engage each channel on its own or stack both for more complex textures. This setup supports quick changes without extra pedals cluttering your board.
Clear control through visual feedback
Dual VU meters set this pedal apart by giving constant visual feedback on signal levels. One meter monitors your instrument input, while the other shows the pedal’s output. This makes it easier to manage gain staging, especially when switching basses, adjusting pickups, or changing venues.
The blue LEDs clearly indicate which drive is active, helping you make precise adjustments quickly. For players who value consistency night after night, this feature removes guesswork from tone shaping.
Built for reliable stage and studio use
Constructed from 1.6 mm Zintec steel with a reinforced alloy panel, the Double Drive is made to handle touring demands. A transformer-isolated balanced DI output allows direct connection to front of house systems or recording interfaces, while the ground lift switch helps reduce hum in challenging power conditions.
Running on an external 9 to 18 V supply, the pedal fits easily into professional pedalboards. Compact dimensions and manageable weight make transport straightforward without sacrificing build quality.
