However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers.
The highlights of this enhanced warranty service are:
Please note that this extended warranty is currently only available on products sold within the UK, EU or EEA, and is subject to the terms and conditions as detailed on the extended warranty certificate provided.
For customers in outlying areas of the country, the price of the Extended Warranty may be marginally higher, due to the potential for higher collection and redelivery transport costs.
This enhanced warranty is in addition to the standard Gear4music and manufacturer warranty policies, and the Gear4music terms and conditions of trade. No statement or condition of sale contained within these terms affects or restricts your statutory rights as defined under the Consumer Contracts Regulation 2014.
Key Features
The Gibson Custom Explorer in Custom Gloss Ebony is a bold reimagining of one of Gibson’s most iconic shapes. Built by the Gibson Custom Shop, it represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship, authenticity and tone. With its angular Explorer body carved from solid mahogany and finished in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, this model delivers commanding presence both visually and sonically. The upscale Custom aesthetic brings multi-ply binding, gold hardware and refined pearl appointments to a design that has always stood apart.
At the heart of this Custom shop Explorer, a 490R neck and 498T bridge humbucker pairing provide the unmistakable Gibson voice, balancing warmth, punch and high-output bite. The solid ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl block inlays adds snap and articulation, while the long tenon neck joint enhances sustain and resonance. Complete with Grover Kidney tuners, a Tune-O-Matic bridge and Custom Shop hardshell case, this Explorer blends heritage attitude with elevated precision.

Every Gibson Custom instrument reflects meticulous attention to historical detail and uncompromising build quality, and this Explorer is no exception. Constructed from solid mahogany with no weight relief, it offers a substantial feel and authoritative tonal foundation with impressive sustain. The gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish enhances the depth and richness of the Ebony colour while allowing the wood to resonate naturally. Multi-ply body binding, pearl appointments and gold hardware elevate the iconic Explorer silhouette into something truly special, blending vintage heritage with modern refinements.
The solid ebony fingerboard contributes a fast, articulate response with a smooth, glassy playing surface under the fingers. Its 12" radius and medium-jumbo frets provide a versatile platform for both rapid rhythm parts and expressive lead lines. Mother-of-pearl block inlays and multi-ply binding add visual sophistication while reinforcing the guitar’s Custom Shop credentials. Combined with the medium C neck profile and 24.75" scale length, it delivers familiar Gibson comfort, strong note separation and the kind of sustain that encourages confident phrasing across the entire fretboard.
The 490R neck pickup delivers warm, rounded tones with rich harmonic content, ideal for fluid leads and full-bodied rhythm passages. In contrast, the 498T bridge pickup adds higher output, tighter low end and aggressive bite when you need extra drive. Together, they provide impressive versatility across genres, from classic rock and blues to heavier modern styles. A hand-wired harness with CTS 500K pots preserves clarity, dynamic sensitivity and high-end detail, while the Switchcraft selector and output jack ensure reliable performance night after night.
Gold-plated hardware completes the look, from the Grover Kidney tuners to the Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece. Black multi-ply pickguard, black M69 mounting rings and black speed knobs create bold contrast against the deep gloss Ebony finish. Brass strap buttons and a gold-plated jack plate reinforce durability while adding subtle refinement. Supplied with a Gibson Custom hardshell case and Certificate of Authenticity, this Explorer stands as a striking Custom Shop statement piece built for players who demand both visual impact and tonal authority.
