Connect microphones and instruments directly
The MP1 accommodates both microphone and instrument-level sources, giving you a flexible starting point for recording and live signal chains. Its balanced three-pin XLR input accepts microphones and other balanced audio sources, with a specified 2kOhm input impedance. Alternatively, plug a guitar, bass, keyboard, or another instrument-level source into the 6.35mm TS DI input, which has a 1MOhm impedance. Connecting to the DI input automatically disables the XLR input, so only one source is active at a time, with the instrument connection taking priority.
Get your input level under control
A dedicated gain control lets you adjust the input gain for signals connected through either the microphone or DI input. If a high input level starts causing clipping or distortion, the switchable pad attenuates the incoming signal to help bring it under control. Its red indicator illuminates when the pad is engaged, making the current setting easy to check. The XLR microphone input and 6.35mm DI input are both specified for a maximum input level of +3dBu, giving you useful technical information when planning how the MP1 will fit into your setup.
Manage low frequencies and phase
Two additional controls help you address common signal problems before the audio reaches the next stage of your setup. Engage the low-cut filter to reduce rumble, handling noise, and other unwanted low-frequency content, with a yellow indicator showing when it's active. A separate phase switch reverses signal polarity by 180°. This can help correct phase issues when you're combining multiple microphones or other audio sources. When phase inversion is switched on, its green indicator provides a clear visual reference, so you can quickly see how the preamp is configured.
Route signals into your recording setup
Switchable 48V phantom power lets the MP1 supply compatible condenser microphones directly through its XLR input. For safety, phantom power should only be enabled when the connected equipment supports it. Once your signal is ready, balanced XLR and 6.35mm TRS outputs provide flexible routing into mixing consoles, audio interfaces, recorders, powered speakers, and other professional audio equipment. The connection examples on page three show both instrument-to-console and microphone-to-console setups, demonstrating how the MP1 can handle either source type within a straightforward signal chain.
