A celebration of un-notated traditions
Recorded at Castlesound Studios in Edinburgh, Albion Solstice is an intimate and highly detailed cinematic sample library built around carefully workshopped ensembles. Specialist performers from classical, folk, Celtic, Gaelic, and related traditions are paired with modern tools including analogue synthesisers, Eurorack modular systems, electric guitar textures, tuned percussion, and bespoke processing. The result is a focused scoring toolkit that blends heritage instruments with contemporary production, creating characterful sound palettes suited to modern film, TV, and game music.
This NKS-compatible library is organised into three clear sections: The Solstice Orchestra, which forms the organic core with 10 curated ensembles and a solo instrument; The Cassette Orchestra, offering 750 tape-processed sound sources shaped through the eDNA engine; and The Drone Grid, a vast collection of evolving textures designed for long-form scoring. As with all Albion libraries, Solstice is designed to remove creative friction, helping you sketch, develop, and finish cues quickly. Curated over two years by Christian Henson, Albion Solstice reframes traditional sounds for contemporary cinematic writing.
The Solstice Orchestra
The Solstice Orchestra features 10 ensembles, one soloist, and 235 articulations, including 78 string articulations with detailed legato options. These folk and contemporary instrument groups are presented with clarity and restraint, placing performance nuance at the centre. Hand-selected and curated by Christian Henson alongside traditional musicians from across Scotland and the wider UK, the Orchestra delivers intimate, expressive tones that feel direct and emotionally grounded.
Instrumentation spans strings, brass, woodwinds, choir, percussion, whistles, synths, and guitars, all arranged into pre-orchestrated ensembles to speed up the writing process. You’ll find single hits, standard and extended techniques, tempo-synced motors, evolutions, drones, and textures. Distinctive sections include The Callers, a characterful brass and woodwind ensemble; The Generator Trio, blending electric guitars and bass for rhythmic movement; The Blaggards, built from folk instruments reimagined for cinematic use; and The Elders, pairing classic and traditional string sections. Every ensemble is structured to let you focus on composition, not setup.
Broadcast-ready mix
Albion Solstice includes a ready-to-use mix created by film, TV, and game scoring engineer Jake Jackson, allowing you to load sounds and start writing immediately. For deeper control, the intuitive interface provides access to three microphone positions, making it easy to shape perspective and space. A bespoke cinematic impulse response reverb, developed specifically for Solstice, lets you balance the tight, controlled sound of Castlesound with wider orchestral mixes. This flexible setup helps Solstice integrate smoothly alongside other orchestral libraries in professional scoring sessions.
The Cassette Orchestra
The Cassette Orchestra expands the Solstice sound set with 150 presets built from 750 source recordings taken from The Solstice Orchestra. These sounds are intentionally imperfect, processed and reshaped by Christian Henson using vintage cassette decks, analogue tape delays, Eurorack modular systems, and a wide range of guitar effects pedals. Designed for creative exploration, this section encourages you to twist, layer, and transform organic performances into new textures using the eDNA engine.
Included within this section is The Visitor, a collection of 100 synthesiser-based sounds drawn from Christian’s personal collection. Classic and modern synths such as the Lyra 8, Juno 6, Jupiter series, MS-20, and Moog Prodigy are recorded in doubled configurations and processed with analogue effects to create wide, characterful stereo textures.
The Drone Grid
The Drone Grid presents long, evolving textures derived from The Solstice Orchestra within Spitfire Audio’s Evo grid interface. Designed for sustained scoring work, these drones provide gradual movement and tonal depth that can underpin entire cues. Each performance is rich in character and responds dynamically to expression and dynamics controls, encouraging hands-on shaping over time. Curated by Christian Henson, The Drone Grid is built to support exploration and experimentation, making it particularly useful for atmospheric scoring, tension beds, and transitional moments.
