The Steinberg Amped Elektra is a virtual piano instrument, sampled from a vintage Hohner Electra piano from the ‘70s. Perfect for Funk, Neo Soul and Jazz, Amped Elektra combines the instrument’s original DI signal with samples recorded through three vintage amplifiers, letting you shape the warm, soulful tones of classic piano that’s full of character. Amped Elektra’s 43 detailed presets give you a broad starting point, while individual chord selections created for each preset can quickly spark progressions and song ideas. You can also adjust the electric piano’s bark, key release, pedal sound, and key range to tailor its response to your track. For extra depth, blend the original instrument with reamped signals from The Tower, an Ampeg V4, and a Fender Twin Reverb. In addition, you can put the sound of your vintage inspired piano through custom impulse responses including chamber, spring, and plate reverb, taken from a vintage hardware unit to add depth and dimension to your piano sound.

Amped Elektra recreates the distinctive sound of a restored ’70s Hohner Electra, an electric piano sonically related to instruments such as the Wurlitzer and Rhodes. Its original DI signal was captured at YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! Studios in Hamburg, giving you direct access to the instrument’s core character. You can then fine-tune its behaviour with controls for bark, key release, and pedal sound, as well as extending the playable key range. This makes it easy to adjust the instrument around the needs of your Funk, (Neo) Soul, or Jazz production rather than relying on a fixed sampled sound.
Alongside the original DI recording, Amped Elektra lets you mix in signals captured through three vintage amplifiers. The rare ’50s Tower provides a warm, voluminous character captured using a Sennheiser MD441. A ’70s Ampeg V4 adds another tube-driven option, while an original ’70s Fender Twin Reverb provides a crisper alternative. Both of these ’70s amplifiers were recorded using a Neumann small-diaphragm tube microphone. With all three reamped sounds available for blending, you can balance the Electra’s direct tone against different amplifier characters to suit the arrangement.
Each Amped Elektra preset includes its own selection of matching chords for HALion’s chord pads. Rather than starting every progression from scratch, you can use these preset-specific chords as an immediate source of harmonic ideas that complement the sound you’ve selected. Each chord pad can also be assigned to a trigger note, allowing you to play complete chords from a single key. It’s a practical way to sketch progressions, experiment with harmonic combinations, and develop song ideas while keeping your focus on the sound and arrangement.
Amped Elektra includes additional impulse responses created using specially selected vintage equipment, giving its reverb section extra tonal options. Chamber, spring, and plate reverbs let you place the electric piano in different spaces or add further character around its reamped sound. These responses were designed with equipment including the EMT 240 “Goldfolie”, Lexicon 224, AKG BX5, and Roland Chorus Echo RE-501. Combined with the DI and amplifier signals, they give you another layer of control when fitting the instrument into a mix or building a more spacious electric piano sound.
