Rather than relying on a single form of processing for its character, Ember gives you several ways to introduce warmth, grit, and harmonic complexity directly within the synth.
Ember's Circuit controls adjust the synth's internal accuracy and modulation, introducing analogue-style unpredictability to otherwise precise sounds. This gives patches subtle variation and character without requiring extensive parameter automation. The Drift section takes that movement further, applying evolving modulation across parameters, including Ember's Master controls. You can use it to keep sustained sounds moving or introduce variation into repeating patterns. An integrated arpeggiator adds another source of rhythmic movement, making it easier to turn a patch into more detailed sequences. Combined, Circuit, Drift, and the arpeggiator give you several ways to make sounds feel less static.
Detailed synthesis doesn't have to mean constant menu diving. Ember uses an intuitive interface alongside Master controls for quickly adjusting broader characteristics across a patch. Tone, time, and width controls let you reshape complex sounds with fewer individual adjustments, affecting elements including envelope timing, effects, and circuitry intensity. This makes it straightforward to make larger tonal changes while retaining the individual synthesis features underneath. If you'd rather begin with an existing sound, Ember also includes over 200 presets from artists including Stimming, Craig Bauer, Steve Levine, Mr. Bill, Undulae, Jae Deal, and Mike Schmid, providing plenty of starting points for further sound design.
Seven integrated effects let you add texture, movement, dynamics, and space without immediately building an external processing chain. Crackle introduces additional texture, while Ripple and Chorus provide further ways to shape movement. Compress handles dynamics, Heat adds another layer of tonal character, and Echo and Space provide delay and spatial processing. Each effect is designed to work alongside Ember's oscillator engine, making the FX section an integral part of patch creation rather than simply an additional processing stage. Combined with the synth's saturation, modulation, filtering, and Drift controls, these effects give you plenty of options for developing sounds entirely within Ember.
